The Windward Islands – Society Archipelago

Did you receive the first newsletter covering our preferred selection of guesthouses in the Tuamotu Archipelago? If you missed it, you can catch it either by going on our blog (click here) or ask us to resend the newsletter to you by email!

So now we are flying over the Windward Islands of the Society Archipelago heading over to visit our favorite guesthouses on Tahiti and Moorea!

Neither of these two islands really needs to be introduced since they are so well known and are usually your first stop when visiting French Polynesia!

Suffice it to say that Tahiti is the largest and highest island of the 118 islands where the international and domestic airport is located. From mountainous ranges plunging down to black and white sand beaches, Tahiti has a lot to offer the visitor. Its sister island, Moorea, is just 17km across the channel, a quick ferry hop away from Tahiti. But when you first put foot onto Moorea, the cool island vibe will hit you and you’ll feel right away the difference from Tahiti!

So let’s begin with Tahiti!

Tahiti:  You should not miss out on an opportunity of exploring Tahiti which is in fact almost separated into two parts with Tahiti Nui (big) and Tahiti Iti (small). A narrow peninsula joins the two parts of the same island together. Everything can be done on Tahiti and should be since Tahiti has the highest mountains, both black and white sand beaches, the best surf spot (Teahupo’o), the deepest waters, historical and cultural areas to visit! So surf, swim, dive, ride, walk, hike, float to discover all that Tahiti reserves for you!

The variety of guesthouses on Tahiti is quite large so we will explore two that are optimum for our travelers’ different needs:  the comfortable and chic “Fare Suisse Tahiti” located in Papeete and the simple, authentic “Relais Fenua” near the famous local beach called Vaiava Beach or PK18! Each is located on a separate part of the island of Tahiti giving you two options to explore everything Tahiti has to offer!
