The largest island in French Polynesia

Crowned by a circle of majestic peaks, the Island of Tahiti, the largest island in French Polynesia, towers over the ocean like a proud and royal Queen. The mountainous interior is adorned with mystical valleys, clear streams, and high waterfalls. The capital city, Pape’ete, meaning “water basket,” was once a gathering place where Tahitians came to fill their calabashes with fresh water.

Now it is a vibrant island with many activities and excursions, mouth-watering restaurants and cafés, local handicraft and Tahitian black pearl shopping! On the other side of the island, very near the famous surf spot of Teahupo’o lies an enchanting and genuine pension or Tahitian guesthouse, Vanira Lodge. Each individual bungalow is literally hand-crafted incorporating only local elements yet keeping a distinctive, visible elegance. Some bungalows are perched in the tree tops while others boast plunge pools on their terraces or balconies. Attention to detail and personalized touches make all visitors feel so welcome on this seductive side of the island!
